Voting with Dynamic Threshold Values for Real-time Fault Tolerant Control Systems

چکیده
Voting on the outputs of redundant modules with real number results (i.e., where correctly functioning redundant systems may arrive at slightly different yet correct outputs for identical inputs) is not straightforward. Such cases need inexact voting in which some discrepancies between the outputs of redundant modules are allowed. Documented inexact voters use a fixed threshold value that may cause problems in safety-critical systems. This paper introduces a voting algorithm with dynamic threshold value. The voter is implemented, and compared with its counterpart with a fixed threshold value. The experimental results show that the novel voter gives more correct yet less incorrect results than the conventional majority voter with a fixed threshold value in the examined error scenarios. متن کاملInterval Type-2 fuzzy voter design for fault tolerant systems
A voting scheme constitutes an essential component of many fault tolerant systems. Two types of voters are commonly used in applications of real-valued systems: the inexact majority and the amalgamating voters. The inexact majority voter effectively isolates erroneous modules and is capable of reporting benign outputs when a significant disagreement is detected. However, an application specific...
متن کاملA Novel N-Input Voting Algorithm for X-by-Wire Fault-Tolerant Systems
Voting is an important operation in multichannel computation paradigm and realization of ultrareliable and real-time control systems that arbitrates among the results of N redundant variants. These systems include N-modular redundant (NMR) hardware systems and diversely designed software systems based on N-version programming (NVP). Depending on the characteristics of the application and the ty...
متن کاملA Dynamic Fault Classification Scheme
In this paper, we introduce a novel and simple fault rate classification scheme in hardware. It is based on the well-known threshold scheme, counting ticks between faults. The innovation is to introduce variable threshold values for the classification of fault rates and a fixed threshold for permanent faults. In combination with field data obtained from 9728 processors of a SGI Altix 4700 compu...
